Float On

One of my goals this year was to do some stranded knitting, something I had never before attempted on a large scale. Then, it was announced the Q3 Challenge over at Sheri’s blog was “to pick a sock or lace pattern that is a stretch for you in terms of new techniques.” So, here I go, diving in head first.

Believe it or not, this is actually a practice swatch.

I’m actually going to rip this out and start over. I’m going to redo the band at the top (which encloses a strip of elastic) on smaller needles. I also need to practice knitting a bit looser, but otherwise, I am loving this. It’s fun to knit this in public–my coworkers were impressed.

That’s super impressive. I’ve not even attempted any colorwork since the idea of floats disturbs me in my tightknitterness.

You know, I had the worst time trying to figure out what to do for that challenge. Almost every new technique I learn, I practice on socks first. Lace, cables, cabling without a needle. I did some FI mittens, with sock yarn. Which is generally the same. But you know, I could do some argyle/intarsia socks. Thanks for sparking my little mind into gear! lol
